Yang the Second and Her Secret Admirers

In the story, did Second Sister have an American name? If she did not, why do you think that was the case?
How does her name tell us about her feelings toward her new home and the new people in her life?

Be sure to answer all of the questions above. Check your spelling and grammar. Be thoughtful in your responses!

No, second sister did not have an American name. she does not want an American name ,because she wants to be in China with her all of her friends so she keeps her name to maybe keep memories. Her name just tells us she wants to be in China with her friends and does not really like America so you can tell by her feelings on the way she acts in the story. And those were my thoughtful answers. =)

In the story, Second Sister did not have an American name, because she wanted to keep her Chinese herritage. If I was in the positon of Second Sister, I would have come up with an American name. By Second Sister keeping her Chinese name (Yinglan) tells the reader how she wants to keep her Chinese herritage, and how she wants nothing to do about being an American. Second Sister doesn't want to make any friends, even though she had many friends in China. If I was Second Sister, I would try to make friends with other people. Second Sister shows she does not like America, because she really misses China and doesnt want to change her name or make friends.

I don't think that Second Sister had an American name because she loved and missed China so much that she wouldn't change her name. Also she probably wouldn't have an American name because of her strong Chinese background. Her name tells us that she doesn't really like America that much and she wants to move back to China with her friends. She would probably feel more comfortable if she met someone who speeks Chinese.

I think second sister didn't want an american name. I think it was part of her heritage and I don't think that she would get used to her name. Another reason would be maybe her name is imbearesting and she dosn't want anyone to know.

Second Sister did not have an American name. I think she didn't because she loves her herritage and her name is part of that. She does not want friends because she probobly missses her friends back in China. She did not want to leave her home and or friends. She does not like that people in America do not respect her traditions and culture. She does not like Paul Eng because he's part Chineese and doesn't know anything about China. This is why she does not want to make friens.

Second sister did not have a american name. She did not have an american name because she was born in china(her real name is Yinglan). Her name tells us about her feelings by how she is not making friends and by how many friends she made in china

  7. #11- Second sister did not have an american name, her name was Yinglan. This was the case because she wanted support Chinese heritage. Her name tells us that she misses her old house in China and all of her friends. She feels like the new people in her life will not like her so, she doesn't choose an american name. She knows absolutely nothing about America, she was born in China she has memories from China, and altogether she likes China more than America and she hopes she can go back soon.

I think that she did not want an American because she loves her Chinese heritage and she dosen't want to give it up. This tells that she is not comfortable with her new home. It thells that she misses all her old friends in China. Yingto said that she wasn't allways like this.

No, second sister did not want an American name, she wanted to stay with her heritage. Well Yanglan wanted to stay in China with all her friends and family. She likes it in America but she likes it better in China. She also is mad at Paul Eng for not being like her and at every one for not noing about a erhu(a chines violin with only 2 stirngs).

  10. #27...... In the story Yang the Second and her Secret Admirers, Second Sister did not have an American name. In the story her name was Yinglan. That is a name from the Chinese culture. I think she does not have an American name because she grew up in China along with her sisters. That tells that her feelings about America were not really positive. I think since Yinglan has a full Chinese heritage name that means she probably misses home. In the story Yinglan does not make any friends because she feels that no one she meets really appreciates her heritage. Especially, a boy named Paul Eng, who Yinglan is scornful about. For Paul Eng also does not know a lot about his Chinese culture. I think that Yinglan misses her friends in China, who know all about their heritage. So in the story, Yinglan feels homesick.

I think that Second Sister did not have an American name because she only wanted a name from her Chinese heritage. She would not like a name that is not her heritage, so she would not be happy if she didn't have a name that comes from China. I think that her name describes how she loves her heritage because her name is Yang which comes from China. I also think that her name tells me that she does not like her new home because it is not in China, where she is from. Her name describes that she does not want to be living there because she misses her old friends, but at the end of the story we can predict that she will go on a date with Paul Eng and she will become friends with some of his friends.

Second sister did not have an American name because she wants to be in china with all of her friends. She also only likes boys that speak chinese. I think that second sister just wants to keep her chinese heritage with her for memories.I also think that Second sister wants to be comfertable with america but wants to go back to china to all of her old friends.

No she did not have an american name. She would'nt want an american name at all. Throughout the story she prefers to stay contenet to her chinese heritage, rather than clinging to a fixed american culture. And therefore she would chose to remaing among her heritage and her name.

In the book she did not have an American name. I think she would not like to be called by an American name because, she likes the Chinese heritage. Another reason why I do not think she does is that she will not make friends in America. I think she feels good being called Yang that is what she was called in China. In the Story Third sister Said," She would not talk to anyone who did not know Chinese."

Second sister doesn't have an American name because she doesn't want to change her Chinese heritage. Even though she lives in America she doesn't want to make friends, doesn't want to change her name, or to change cloths. I think that she doesn't change because she only loves China and not America.

In the story second sister does not have an American name in the story second sister's name is Yang. She does not have an American name because she was born in China. Well, the people in america are much differnt then the people in china so she is sad that she is not at her home land. Her name tells us where she is from and where her parents are from. In her new home we can tell she is unhappy. In her new home we can also tell that she has no friends and that she is noble for her countery.

Second sister did not have an American name in the story. Her name was Yinglan, which is not an American name. Keeping her name and not making friends tells that second sister wants to keep her chinese heritage. Most of the people she knows are not chinese or do not speak chinese. That makes second sister mad since she is not comfterable with people that do not speak chinese. She has spent many years in China and she is used to people speaking chinese. Also second sister does not seem to ever drop her heritage.

I think that second sister didn't want to make friends because, she miss her other friend's back home at China. When we were at the dinner table, third sister said, I made a lots of friends. Third sister said and little brother said I also made lots friends at school with third sister. Kim and third sister and the brother went to the Science Center,at the Museum their were a lot of buttons to push. The brother said we're supposed to look for scientific facts from around the Museum. So while Kim and third sister played with the machiens, that speeds up their voices, and also made them sound like Donolad Ducks, It was pretty funny when Kim heard that Donald Ducks sound Kim,third sister and little brother think was funny too.

I think that Second Sister did not have an American name other than Second Sister. I think that was the case because maybe when she came imagrated from China, the people that give you another name if you were from a different country, did not give Second sister a different name when she came over on the ship from China. Or her parents did not give her a nick name. I think that her chinese name,Yinglan, showed that she was not that happy toward her new home and the new people in her life because the people in America did not appreiciate chinese customs as much as Yinglan's friends did in China.

No, she didn't have an American name. She only had her Chinese name which was, Yinglan. Her name tells about her feelings towards her home because she loves China. She doesn't have an American name because she doesn't want an American name. She doesn't want to be a part of any other culture accept her own Chinese culture. It is the same with the new people. She doesn't want to meet new peopele because she already had good friends in China and she doesn't want to let go of that. I think that she wants to be able to talk with her friends in chinese or play chinese instruments with them. She really loves her heritage and the people and objects that go along with it and she always will.

Second sister was very proud if her heritage so she didn't want an American name. She brought in one of china's classical instruments and thought that no one really appreciated it as much as she thought they should. She also didn't want to make any friends, but Yingtao could see when she saw second sister with her friends that Second sister probably missed being able to talk and laugh with her friends. She also didn't really seem to like her new home in America. I think if she did want to make friends that she wouldn't want to be friends with anyone in her class because none of them was Chinese. That's why Yingtao and third sister wanted her and Paul Eng to be together.

  26. #6:No, second sister did not have a american name because she wanted to keep here chinese heritage. Second sister did not like her new house because she wanted to be back in China. She didn't like alot of people because the did not speak chinese and were not educated in chinese heritage.

No, Second Sister did not have an American name because she felt that she wanted to keep her Chinese heritage and traditions alive. She didn't want to make any friends because she felt that all these Americans around her didn't know or respect her traditions. She wouldn't also really know what to talk to them about especially Paul Eng she knew that he was from China and that she knew that he didn't know none of thier customs and she is thinking that what kind of Chinese person doesn't know his own heritage. If I were in her place I would not change to an American name because I would have the same reason I would want to keep a piece of Chinese heritage in my name, but I would try to make friends unlike her, I would want to practice the new customs here in America, but that still wouldn't mean I would lose my Chinese heritage I would always have it, but just with America customs with it.

  28. I Don't think that Yang the 2nd would have an American name. Based on the story, the author did not put any American name For Yinglan. Also Yinglan is not an American name, it is a Chinese name. In the story, Yinglan stayed in China for a long time. Also she was born there. If she was born there, then the parents wouldn't know about America.

Yinglan's name(Also refering Yang the Second.)is a Chinese name tells us that Yinglan was born in China. In Asian traditions, an Asian name means something like a name can describe spirits, animals, feelings, etc. In the story, Yinglan has a strong feeling about her heritage. Maybe her name describes a feeling. When Yinglan moves to America, it is going to be di.fferent from China, especially names. She stayed in China for a long time and she should have got used to China. When she moved to a new country, she doesn't know anyone, speak the language, and doesn't know any American cultures. She must be lonely.

First A: No, she did not hav an american name because she clings to her chinese heritage. She doesn't bother to make any Friends because probably her Chinese heritage is to not make any or she has very good friends in china and she doesn't want other people to take her friends' places.
Second A: Her name shows us how she feels by her name being a chinese name. Second Sister means second child born being a girl. It shows us that she kind of likes her home, but she doesn't like American people that much. I can see that by the way she treats Paul Eng, which is chinese but born in America, she doesn't like the way American people treat her or the way American people behave. It can also be her Chinese heritage.

This my opinion,so yours can differ.

In the story, Yang the Second and Her Secret Admirers, Second Sister did not have an American name, because it was the Chinese name, Yinglan. Her name says that she did not bther to give herself an English name for her would-be friends like her siblings did, because Chinese names are hard to remember.

No second sister did not have an American name. I think that is becuase she misses all her friends back in China. Also I believe she was to proud of her heritage to move to another country. She only knows chinese culture becuase she was their all her life and didn't want to take on another culture becuase she was to attached to china. Also second sister has to may friends their and is probably very homesick. This clearly shows that she does not want to move to another place.

  32. #19 Yang has difficulties with her time in America because she has never being there before and she has different colcher and she has two sisters and one brother a mom,dad and her family members are doing okay so than the boy comes in and tells her sister can go on a date with her or something she was quite for a moment and than the boy came to her room and they were playing and that's how she also got a hang of it she took her instrument to school and played for the class and that was when she got friends and everything was okay for her and she had a good life.
