Cause and Effect

Think about what you have learned of the early days of the American Revolution. If the effect was becoming independent from England, name three causes that led the colonists to decide to become independent.

As always, check your spelling and grammar. Write complete sentences and list your classroom number at the end of your entry to receive full credit.

  1. I think that one of the reasons that England became independent is because of the taxes England was giving them and the Boston Tea Party. The Colonist didn’t like what England was doing so England took out all the tea other people were selling and only people would buy from them so the colonist threw out all the tea off a boat and demanded to sell their own tea.

The first cause that led the colonists to decide they wanted to become independent was because we won the war against the English. The second reason we wanted to become independent was because we didn’t want to pay extra taxes. The last reason we wanted to become independent was because people kept on getting tarred and feathered because of the Stamp Acts.

There are many reasons why the colonies wanted independence from England. One reason is that the colonists didn’t agree with the British putting taxes on items. Some items the British put taxes on were tea, paper, and sugar. The colonists called these the intolerable acts. Another reason the colonists wanted independence was because of the British having soldiers move into random citizens’ homes. The colonists felt that they didn’t have room anymore. A third reason the Americans wanted independence was that the British started putting curfews on some colonies. These acts led to the revolutionary war.

One reason that the colonists wanted to break away from England is that the king George III of England was unfairly taxing the colonies. He was doing this because he needed money to pay the expenses of the French and Indian war. Another reason was the fact that not only was he taxing them; the colonists did not have a representative in parliament. That is called taxation without representation. Also colonists felt that they had a right to govern themselves rather than be ruled by a king. They were upset that the king was making their laws for them.

The reason why the people want to be independent is because they are sick and tired of the British ruling them. Another reason why they want to be independent is because they don’t want any more soldiers living in their house. And they don’t like having tax on tea or stamps and sugar these are called the tea act, stamp act and the sugar act. To show that they don’t like to be ruled some people called The Sons of Liberty dressed like Indians and they dump all the tea on a ship no one was harmed. Now we can be independent by not getting ruled by someone.

  9. #14 I think one of the things that lead to the revalutionary war was the Boston tea party which was colonests throwing tea into the water dressed as indians because of the tax on tea was unfair to the patriots. I think another thing that lead to the war was the Boston massacre which was brittish soldiers shooting colonests because they threw snowballs at them. I think another reason reason why the war happened was because were charging high taxes on everything.

  10. -One of them is the taxes of tea, the stamp act, and sugar.
-A other one is that people would have british soldiers come in and live in there homes and do what ever they want.

The Boston Tea Party is one of the reasons why the colonists want to be independent. They threw the tea into the harbor so the colonists won’t have to pay taxes from England. The Boston Massacre is another. The colonists had a big fight, and the leader claims that he didn’t yell fire but the red coats thought that he did, so the red coats shot five colonists. They also tarred and feathered people so people wouldn’t want to have the jobs that the people that get tarred and feathered have.

I think that the first reason that the colonists broke away from Europe is because the king was making unfair and unjust laws, so then some people from Europe went to America to make new colonies for themselves. The second reason would be that when the British followed the colonists to the colonies and started raising taxes, so the sons of liberty dumped tea into the harbor dressed like Indians; this was called the “Boston Tea Party”. The third reason would be that King George the III told the soldiers to go into people’s houses and sort of live there, so people called patriots started throwing snowballs at the soldiers and one of those patriots yelled fire when the soldiers weren’t looking and then the soldiers fired at the crowd.

These are some of the reasons The American Revolutionary war started…. American people were strongly independent. They wanted to do things for themselves. Great Britain was a long way away. The American people didn't want people an ocean away telling them how to live their lives.
    1. The British government decided to make the American colonies pay a large share of the war debt from the French and Indian War.
    2. Through the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and other taxes, the British tried to collect taxes that the American people considered harsh.
    3. The American people also thought that they should be able to send their own people to Britain's Parliament or at least vote for Britain's lawmakers.

  14. One of the causes was they didn’t want to pay taxes for the stuff they bought. They didn’t want to pay for the war that just happened. They didn’t want acts like the stamp act. They wanted freedom and didn’t want to be ruled by King George the third.

One reason that the colonists wanted to be separate from England is that they did not want England to tax them wthout representatives from the colonies. The British were taxing them because they thought they should pay for the soldiers in the French and Indian War. But they did not let the colonists have any representatives. Another reason is that the English were forcing the colonists in Boston to house British soldiers. The British made them house soldiers because a group known as the Sons of Liberty dumped a ship's tea into the harbor. The Sons of Liberty dumped the tea into the harbor because the English were taxing them. A third reason is that the British were trying to make the colonists only buy tea from one British company. They did not let them buy tea from anywhere else.

  16. One reason is that the sons of liberty dumped tea into the harbor. They collected the taxes because they had a huge debt from the French and Indian war. the colonists tarred and feathered because the tax collectors collected the taxes. The Boston massacre led to more troops in the Boston colony and the colonist did not want that. 11

One of the reasons why the colonist wanted to be independent was that they didn’t like some of King George’s Rules.
    1. One of the rules were the colonist had to pay taxes on tea. So one night in 1773 The Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians went on one of the British boats and dumped several tons of tea into the Boston Harbor.
    2. King George had every printed paper stamped. That act was called the Stamped Act.
    3. Another was that King George made the British Soldiers live in the colonist house. The colonist had to feed them and take care of them.

  18. They didn’t want to pay taxes on tea, sugar, and stamps. The colonists didn’t like that the king was making them house soldiers and feed them. The Boston Tea Party was set by the Sons of Liberty to show the British that that they really didn’t like the tax on tea so they dressed up like Indians with axes and dumped all the tea on a British ship into the ocean.

    Causes
The colonist didn’t like how they were getting taxed on tea without say in it. King Gorge was sending solders to Boston and in homes of the colonist. Then King Gorge was telling the solders that there was that no one can be out at a time because they had a curfew and they didn’t want people to snoop around and if you were snooping you would get put in jail.
    Effects
This made the colonist very mad so the Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians went on the boat that had the tea and got axes and cut open the tea and dumped it in the harbor. The colonist tarred and feathered the tax collectors. The reason that they did that is so that no one will want to be a tax collector and then the King will not get his taxes.

  21. (1) The sons of liberty dumped the tea into the harbor to get rid of the taxes for tea. (2) England won the French and Indian war and kicked out all the French people back to where they came from. (3) The congress sent a letter called the olive branch to King George. The letter said that the people were still loyal to Britain and that war could be avoided if they were given more freedom to govern themselves. #18

  22. 7#nitrogen The reasons are that they did not have the freedom to speak. Tax was a problem because they had to pay money to someone that they did not know. Another reason is that they had to feed the British soldiers and put a roof over their heads because they had had they French and Indian war so they would have to let them stay in their homes.

The first reason why the colonists decided to become independent was that they won the war against the British. They went to war because the colonists didn't want to pay the Parliament of Great Britain the taxes of the Stamp Act. The second reason was because the British raised taxes on usefull things that the Americans need. The last reason was because the Parliament passed the Tea Act in 1773. The Tea Act did not raise taxes, but it tried to get colonists to buy tea from the british. They stopped the colonists from buying tea from other places by throwing crates of tea off of the Boston harbor.

    1. The colonists were getting mad at King George because he was letting the British soldiers into their homes, and they didn’t like it at all
    2. And because the taxes for sugar and stamps were too high for the colonists to pay for
    3. And King George wasn’t letting the colonists to practice their own religion.

  25. 1. Taxation without representation. The British were taxing supplies without the colonists having someone to represent them in Parliament.

    2. The Boston Massacre. Colonists and British soldiers began to argue and colonists threw snowballs, rocks, and oyster shells and British soldiers fired and shot five colonists when they weren’t supposed to. This made colonists mad because they had to have soldiers live in their houses and pay unfair taxes.

    3. The Boston Tea Party. Sons of Liberty dressed up like Mohawk Indians and dumped a ship load of tea in to the Harbor, because the British unfairly taxed tea.

  28. This is one reason is that they dumped the tea in to the harbor witch wasted a lot of money and the colonist were mad about that. Another one is that they taxed mostly everything and the colonist had decided that they are not paying tax and the tax collector who’d be tarred and feathered. They gave out taxes because of the French and Indian war. All of this made them go aganst them. 28

The Colonists did not like that they had to pay taxes to the Britain, they also didn’t like British soldiers searching homes for illegal goods, and they wanted to start their own government. The British also on December 16, 1773 dressed as the Mohawk Indians, took over the British ships in Boston Harbor and dumped all the tea into the water and that became known as the Boston Tea Party.

  30. The American Revolution had many causes, and many effects. The war was about freedom and liberty. Great Brittan won the French and Indian war, but got caught up in a huge debt. They had spent too much money on muskets, musket balls, food, and of course soldiers. To pay off the debt Brittan started taxing the colonies. The colonists refused taxes and laws which made great Brittan very mad. King gorge of Great Brittan sent more soldiers to the colonies because colonists began tarring and feathering tax collectors. Tarring and feathering was when colonists’ poured hot tar on tax collectors then covered them in feathers. The tax collectors came because of one of Brittan’s taxes was on stamps. Brittan began taking away taxes but slapping down new ones. Soon King Gorge made a tax on tea. The colonists did not like this, so one night a group of them called the sons of liberty dressed up as Indians and jumped on a boat from Brittan that carried tea. They pulled the tea out and dumped around 10,000 pounds of it into Boston harbor! This made King Gorge very angry so he sent even more soldiers to the colonies. One night in Boston colonists started yelling at some British guards. They threw snow balls at them and finally the captain of the troops commanded them to fire. The first man who died here was named Crispus Attucks. This made some colonists very angry. Later the British soldiers found stocks of weapons the colonist had stored in case war broke. A man named Paul Revere found out that the British troops were going to destroy the weapons in Lexington and Concord. Paul Revere rode out to the towns to warn the colonists that the British were coming. Groups of colonists gathered to fight them. The first shot fired was called “The shot heard ‘round the world.” This started the Revolutionary war. #3

  31. #19 I think that one of the reasons we became an impendent country was that king gorge put a lot of taxes on the colonist without anyone from the colonist to approve. Another is solders were living in the colonist houses without the colonist wanting them in their houses. And the third is that king gorge was trying to rule the colonist even though he has never seen the colonist.
