Mark Antony and the death of Julius Caesar

Shakespeare tells us that Mark Antony would speak "...not to their reason, but to their feelings." How does Antony then speak to their feelings. How does he manipulate the crowd to see things his way and to stop despising Caesar and instead, care about him?

  1. Mark Antony speaks to their feelings by trying to talk to them with his feelings and that he liked Caesar. He manipulates the people by telling them that Julius isn't such a bad guy, trying to make them change their opinion about Caesar, and make them care about him. Cassius knew that Antony would do this because Mark Antony and Julius Caesar were friends and that's what friends would do.

  2. Mark Antony speaks to their feelings by telling the people that he was not gonna become a tyrant and to give him a chance even though Mark Antony wasn't too sure about Julias Ceaser. Cassius would understand why Mark Antony tried to make the people of Rome change their opinions about Julias Ceaser because him and Cassius are friends and he would be okay with that.

  3. Mark Antony tried to manipulate the audience to make them think that Julius Caesar is not such a bad man and that the people that killed him were bad. Antony was also trying to twist the audiences feelings with his words. An example would be that men would get money because Caesar was generous. Antony said that he had Caesar's will and it said a lot of good things that Caesar would do. Antony played on the crowd's emotions by making them sad that Caesar had been murdered. Cassius feared Antony because he was nervous that the crowd would find him guilty of breaking the law instead of being a hero

  4. Mark Antony is speaking to their feelings because he is trying to say that you shouldn't have hatred on Julius Caesar because he wasn't that mean or heartless as they thought he was. And Cassius thought that if he convinced Rome that Mark Antony was right then Antony would get power over Rome but not Cassius.

Antony is told not to praise Ceasar, so instead he is indirect with his crowd. He tries to get the crowd emotional and somewhat angry by kissing Ceasar's hand and placing it back on the bier. He also held up Ceasar's tattered robe then finaly Ceasar himself. At this moment the croud was changing their minds about Ceasar. Finally, Antony showed the restless crowd Ceasar's Will. After reading the Will, the people of Rome were now completely turned against Brutus and company.

Cassius feared Antony might do this because Antony was smart and clever. He knew Mark Antony loved Ceasar, and was worried that Antony would be indirect about Ceasar but give clues through his emotions and feelings. Cassius feared that their "Heroic" deed would turn into a flat out murder.

  6. How Shakespear puts how Mark Antony felt was a very different and smart way. Mark Antony didn't imediately show how should the Romans care for Ceaser he thought that the romans should not pretend not to know who was Ceaser. Mark Antony slowly did some expressions that he cared alot about Ceaser such as tearing up, holding and then kissed Ceaser's hand. But then he read out loud what was Ceaser's last will and Ceasers will was to give all of his possession to the roman people and that is when the romans say that well Ceaser wasn't all so bad so now the romans are on Mark Antony side. Cassius knew that Mark Antony will make the romans be mad because Ceaser died. He knew that Mark Antony loved Ceaser and respected him alot so Cassius knew that Antony wil not stay quiet Ceasers horrible death he will get his revenge with the people who killed Ceaser.

When he was doing his eulogy that he should be deid with him and not be alive with the romans #12

I think he speaks to her feelings by getting the crowd really worked up and excited. He used small actions to trigger unreasonable emotions in the people of Rome.

At first, before Mark Antony spoke, the people of Rome thought that Caesar was a terrible person. Antony was able to tell them pieces of information that would lead them to assume that Caesar was a good person, such as showing them Caesar's mangled body.

I think Cassius was worried that this would happen because he probably knows about Antony's speaking abilities that could manipulate a large crowd.

  10. Mark Antony speaks to his feelings. Antony was trying to convince the crowd that Julius Caesar was not a bad guy. He was a friend to Rome not a Tyrant. He told the crowd that Caesar wrote a will and was giving them all money and nice things and was not a bad person. All along Cassius feared that Mark Antony would not speak of Caesar as just a friend but as a best friend because, he knew how much Mark Antony cared for Caesar.

  17. Antony appeals to the Roman people’s feelings by telling them that Caesar was not a bad man. He tries to get them to feel sorry for Caesar, and have emotion take over. He tries to get them to stop thinking, and instead, think only of their pity for Caesar.
He manipulates the crowd by refusing to read the will, and build up their anger at the Conspirators for killing a “good man.” Then he releases this anger upon the Conspirators by reading the will and telling the crowd that Caesar loved them so much, they would all inherit his wealth. This changes Rome’s viewpoint on Caesar, so that they are now against Brutus and his friends.
Cassius feared Antony would do this because he knew that behind Antony’s pretense of friendship toward Brutus and the other Conspirators, he was very angry about Caesar’s death. He knew that Antony saw the assassination as a cruel assassination, not an act on behalf of Rome.

  18. Mark Antony speaks to the crowds' feelings by manipulating them to feel like they had lost a close friend. He does this by talking about Ceaser as if he were the greatest man in Rome. He says that all of Caeser's nature paths had become public in his will. The will also said that portions of his wealth would be given to every man in Rome. Antony finished his speech by revealing Caeser's gruesome body. This enraged the crowd. They took outh their rage on the conspirators,Cassius, Brutus, and others. Cassius feared letting Antony give a speech because he suspected that Antony would talk about Caeser like he was a great man.

Mark Antony sopke to there feeling by talking about how he feels about the death of not Ceaser but a good friend. Antony spoke of what good things he did for Rome. Also I believe thst Ceaser's will made most people angry but not at Antony but at Brutus and Cassius. Furthermore I think cassius feared this because he was scared that Antony did just what he did persuade the city of Rome

  20. Mark Antony speaks to the crowd with feeling in his words about Julius Caesar. When talking to the crowd he is twisting there feelings and turning them against the men who killed Caesar. He manipulates the crowd by convincing them that Julius Caesar wasn’t a bad person. That wasn’t that hard because there emotions were already on Mark Antony’s side. But this was Brutus’s fault Cassius warned him that Antony was friends with Caesar and would probably revive his friend.

  21. Mark Antony speaks to the crowds feelings by telling them that Julius Caesar was going to be a great ruler and give every thing back that he took from the citizens of Rome.

Cassius was afraid that Antony was going to do this because Antony was trying to make Caesar the ruler of Rome and give him the crown. After Antony saw that Caesar was dead, Cassius new that Antony was going to stir up some trouble.

  22. Antony makes the croud almost feel guilty of them being fine with Caesars death and indirectly speak to them like they were his friend too. and then he reads of Ceasers Will, wich says that every man in Rome gets a part of his wealth. This makes Rome feel like Antony was right, Caesar was just a normal guy with a big brave and noble heart.

Cassisus had a good feeling that Antony was going to persaued the people in to thinking that them killing Caesar was a terrible and awful thing, making it seem like a murder then a freeing, scarying him into thinking that the might join together and kill the conspirators.

  23. Mark Antony would make the croud feel guilty so he went to read somthing that Caeser wrote and now the crowd feels guilty. cassisus perdicted that Mark Antony would do this so he would try teaming to kill the conspirators. So when he reads somthing that Caeser wrote he is accutally taking the credit for somthing he didn't do.

Mark Atony speaks to their feelings by, telling them that Julius Caesar was a hero and that he did not deserveto die and conspirators killed the man Who "had said" inhis will that everyone was his heir and that he would have given all his wealth back to rome. Mark Antony also throws of the sheets that cover Julius Caesar's body and says "This is what has become of your savior" and shows hacked and slashed body.

    1. Recall that Brutus spoke before Antony and explained to the crowd why he and Cassius killed Caesar. The crowd already knew who killed Caesar.
Cassius had another reason to prevent Antony from speaking.

  28. I think that Mark Anthony speaks to the crowds feeling by very well planning his speech. he also gave many examples about how much Caser loved the people of Rome. I think Mark Antony played the crowed well and made the crowed feel sad that they let Bruits murder Julius. I think that Cassius feared this because if Mark Anthony got the crowd on his side then the people of Rome would want to kill Cassius and Brutis. #22
