Ethics and Unanswered Questions: The Voyage of Christopher Columbus.

Christopher Columbus was successful in some ways as an explorer yet perhaps not so in other ways. After having viewed the video about him, write about some of the consequences of his journey looking for a passage to the Indies. Do you think he did the right thing in trying to find a new route? Did everyone benefit from his discoveries or were there costs? Do you believe Columbus went back to Spain having all of the answers he sought on his voyages?

Make sure you anwer in complete sentences, check your grammar, spelling and punctuation. Try to use at least one quote from the video!

Some consequences that Christopher Columbus had to face were very unfortunate. His ship was attacked by French pirates off the southern coast of Portugal. The pirates set his ship on fire, so he jumped overboard and swam to the nearest land that was called Lagos Portugal. Another consequence was if the winds died down while they were sailing, they would really be in trouble because they needed to get there in the amount of days it would take and they might not have enough food to last the whole trip. It was also difficult for them to know if they were on course because there were no landmarks to guide them. Because of Columbus' voyage, the africans and the native people were made as slaves because of Columbus' trip which brought people to the islands. Yes, I think he did the right thing to discover the new land, because everything that has happened in the worldwouldn't be the same if he didn't discover it even though his trip made the africans and native people slaves. Yes, I think his trip aanswered all his questions because he found more than what he was looking for.

Some of the concequences was that he got cought in a terrible storm, he didn't map out his routes correctly so he landed up somewhere else, and pirates came and invaded his ship and set it on fire. I thought he did do the right thing in trying to find a new route. There were a few costs like they had to give them some jewlry, fine gems and more. I don't believe that he came back to Spain with all the answers because he didn't find what he was looking for.

He was cougth in a storm and his crew couldn't sleep for 2days. He was also atacted by euoropeaun pirates. I do not think he did the right thing because he should of brougth a map. They had to give riches to the Indies from helping them get the right stuff from the sinking of the Maria.I don't think he returned to spain with anything because he didn't find anything.

  4. #29-Christopher Columbus was facing storms that separated his boat from the fleet. He was also attacked by French pirates that destroyed his ship.He ended up not finding a new route to the Indies but he did find a new world. If I was him,no because if I was sailing in a not explored waters,I can get lost.I wouldn't know any dangers in there and if i was lost, I would run out of food and water. After he told everyone that there is new land, the people want to explore. When they got there they decided to make a living there. If no one discovered America,we would not be here today. His goal was to find a new route to the Indies but he didn't get to.Though he didn't find the route, he found new land and found out that you will not fall of of the edge of the world if you go west.

  5. There were many consequences do to his journey. Like men were out lost at sea on the Pinta during a storm. And all the indians lost there land because the spain settelers took all their land. Also the Spain people captured the African people and took them as slaves.

  6. #6:Some cosequences were that his ships got in terrible storms and the Santa Maria was crashed into a giant rock and was destroyed.Another was that his ship was attacked by french pirates.A benifit was that a group of indians helped him find some stuff.

There were alot of ethics one was that the first time culumbus salled he got attact by ferench pirrites. One other time the ship used black slaves to do chores on the ship. I think the worst was when a spianch explorer toke over the incaes because the incaes thought he was a god. Yes I do think he did the right thing by geting a new way to go to china even thought he did not find a way to china. I do not think he had all the answers to the the land because he thought it was china. some of my unanswered qestions are how long did culubus live and how was the first one to find north and south west us.

Some of the consequences of his journy were that he lost two of his ships during different storms. Another thing was that the Indains lost their land and most of them died from diseases. Another consequence was African-Americans were held as slaves. I think he did do the right thing to look for a new route because he wanted to help out Spain. Everyone did not benifit from his voage because the African-Americans became slaves and so did some of the Indains. I do not think all of Columbus' questions were anwsered.

One counsequense was it took alot of money that was spent to take the trip. I think he did the right thing because they would never have found this side of the earth. I think the turks didnt benifit beacause thats how they got most of their resources. I dont think he knew everything because he didnt find the United States. These are my thoughts.

one of the counsequense for Columbus was storms, rats, and huge waves. i think that he did the right thing because if he didn'tfind it his freind wouldn't travle even more to find California. They got all the resources because I think the turk did not benifint. I don't think Colobus got all the answers while traviling to Spain

  12. #11- Chrishopher Columbus made many sacrifices, like giving the natives to the Americas disease. Also, I think he made more mistakes than he should have. What I'm getting at is he shouldn't have made those journeys if he didn't then there would be more people in America. Although, at the same time he did something wonderful, he discovered the Bahamas! I think Columbus did something great and something horrible at the same time.

Christopher Columbus is a very brave man. Born in Italy in 1451. At the age of 25 his ship was attacked by French pirates and Columbus jumped out and swam for shore. Columbus was convinced that the Indies lay only about 3,500 miles to the west of Europe. His calculations were incorrect! He thought that most of Earth's surface was land, not water. He asked for many things to go on his adventure that would probably cost a lot of money! He asked King John the 2nd for all of this. He was rejected because it was to much money! Then he asked the King and Queen of Spain, and they said yes. As he was on his journey his ship sank. Chrstopher Columbus is adventurouse but not perfect.

Christopher Columbus had some tough time while tyring sailing on his voyage to the Indies. First, his ship was destroyed by pirates by the southern coast of Portugul. Second, if there was no wind, the ship would be in alot of trouble and might lead offcourse. Third, a big storm with huge waves, put the Santa Maria, Pinta, and Nina offcourse and in different directions.I think he did do the right thing trying to find a new route. I also think that there were costs to the trip because the Africans and Natives were made as slaves. My opinion is that Columbus did not bring back all the answers but did bring back answers from other places and we wouldn't have had the important history we have now without Christopher Columbus.

  18. Some consequenses were that there was a really big storm during the trip and a ship got seperated. Also a ship sank and Columbus and his crew had to get away in a canoe. The trip cost a lot of money and that was another consequense. I think Columbus made the right choice to take the trip. Who knows what would happen if he didn't take the trip. I wouldn't be here writing this. There were some costs in Columbus's trip. A type of indians had to live with people that were not the same as they were and felt very uncomfortable. Also africans were slaved. And no, I don't think that he came back to spain with all the answers. He still haven't found the route to the Indies.

  19. 27........ I think some dangerous things that happened on the voyage was that there are storms. The storms keep the crew up all night. Also during high seas the pinto got seperated from the other ships. I think that the voyage was a good one because we discovered new things and continued our trade with Asia. Not everyone could benifit from the voyage. First, along the seas, some people got injured from pirates attacking. Also, the trip costed a lot of money, so some people lost money. When he came back, I think he had some answers and some were kept a mystery. That's what the voyage was like.

I'm not sure he did the the write thing. He helped find a new land but when they got their they started fighting and claiming everything. Then they started to to take all the indians and put them in slavery. But also we wouldn't be here. I think its a take some lose some type thing.

Christopher Colombus was successful in finding new land claiming, the new land for spain, and finding small riches. He was unsuccessful with not finding the indies, not bringing spices, and not trading. Some troubles that these sailors had to get to the indies were that the got into two big storms that got the nina lost, there were also rough waves got bombed by pirates, didn't find two many riches, the santa maria sank, the crewtrying to get to shore with the help of the nativ americans. Some consequenses of Christopher Colombus is that the land that was the native americans had been taken they no longer had power over thier land because of Colombus' discovery made people want to sail to these lands, the native american also got diseases of the Europeans that sailed to these islands, another consequences is that the Europeans started making the african americans thier slaves.I don't think he did the right thing because since he told everyone in Spain they all started to sail to the islands that were the native american' land and the native american's were nice to Colombus and that's how he repays them for every thing they do for him the video quotes "For the native people of the americas the consequences from Colombus' voyage were tragic, because they lost thier land and became slaves and died by the million European's diseases.".Some of the good things about Colombus' expedition is that now people live in those island and that those island were from spain. No I do not think he went to S[pain with all his answers because he did not get to Asia he did not even know what he did wrong with his map so that's some questions that he went back to spain with.

I think that he is a good man and if he did not do that then we would not be here today. But it was not right to make all natives slaves and he did not get all he wanted like finding a new rout to Asia or some of its riches. But he found the new world and new places for people to live.

I think that he did the right thing to find land. As doing so he hert the nativs that helped him in his quest. The natves did not benifet they became slavs. That is not nice. It hert most of the people in that area. I would not hert the people there. I would be grat full that they helped me, give them more and not bother them. He was helpful back then and now. If he did not find it would change present day, i would not be doing this asinment, and everthing would change.

Christopher Columbus was very unfortunate because he faced many dangers. He was successful in many things, but not so successful in other things. He did claim land for Spain, but that made the indians angry because they had to be slaves for the spanish and many died from European deseases. He kind of did the right thing and kind of not. He did a successful thing such as claiming new lands, but he also could have lost his life and put his crew in danger.
I think that there were both benefits and costs: several European countries studied his and other maps and thought that there might have been more new lands. The price for his voyage was very expensive. The king and queen of Spain had to pay for food, water, and other resourses for the trip.
He didn't find a new sea route to Asia, so I think he didn't find everything he was expecting, but at least he found something.
He went back to Spain with information of his discoveries, he studied them and finally realized that his thoughts were wrong. He kept on looking for a new sea route to Asia but he never found one.

Christohper Columbus was facing bad storms and weather.I think that he did the right thing because if he didn't come here than no one would be here. The bad thing that he did was that he made the native americans his slaves.Although he didn't find Asia and China he found a new world.

I think it was a bad idea to find different route . The cost was maybe alot because Christopher had to pay the king and queen for ships and water with food. Then if Christtopher ran out of food he would have to go to shore and BUY more food and water. No but,he went back to Spain but he did not land in the place he was hoping to land in and he did talk to everybody

I think it was a good thing that he went to sea because if he was still alive and we did not know about california we would not have the food resoures like we have today. He faced a lot of storms and weather condissuns. I think him going to a new route is very risky and no one knows what is on that route and no one knows if there are anyone that could possible kill them and steel there ship.

  31. #7-One consiquense was that he thoughtthey had found a safe way to India but they found an island west of spain and it wasn't India so they might not get the goods that they need. But he did find a new land to explore.
Yes and no because they have new land to gather goods, but no because they might not be the goods they need or want.
